About Me

An Optimistic Penguin:

For those of you who don't know my name is Sara Fearon and I was born in England but moved to New Zealand around 18 months after I was born, and me and my family have been here ever since. I grew up in Auckland and for the most part in the wonderful suburb of Onehunga. I was home-schooled by my Mother until I was high-school age, then I attended my local high-school.

I had always been into performing having done Ballet for ten years, and when I got to high-school this love increased and included contemporary dance, Indian dance, acting, singing, and even the fine arts, anything creative I love. When I finished school I did a one year Certificate in Performance Drama at Excel School of Performing Arts, I then worked for a year and a half and went onto to a Degree in Human Services Disability Studies from the University of Auckland. I then went on to UNITEC to study a Graduate Diploma in the Creative Arts, specializing in Stage Directing (Plays/Theater). My ultimate goal in life is to run a professional theater company for people with all kinds of abilities and disabilities to work and perform in.

I am also a Christian and not just your normal I attend church therefore I am Christian, but a real walking, talking, failing, and trying Christian, meaning I work hard at my relationship with God, I am not perfect and I don't want to be I just want to be the best version of myself and without Jesus I would have no clue where or how to go about my life, he is my everything.

Any how around my high-school years a friend of mine introduced me to anime via the movie Spirited Away, I had previously seen anime such as Card Captor Sakura and Pokemon, you know the usual, but when I saw this movie I was captivated and so since then I have made it my mission to find wonderful anime which makes me laugh and cry and that inspires me. Along with my love for anime I started to delve into the world of Japanese Pop Culture, and what can I say I got hooked, I have always loved other cultures be it Indian, African, or Japanese, they all fascinate and intrigue me, and so while I was exploring the internet one afternoon shortly after my 22nd birthday I found anime figures.

Now I had been given some birthday money from my Granddad and didn't really know what I wanted to use it for, and well I found some articulated anime figures on the web, I looked at pictures, read reviews, scrolled through blogs, and well the clincher was finding the WAVE Corp Appleseed Ex Machina figures Deunan and Briareos, and lucky for me I happened to get them at Hobby Link Japan's half price sale, and so with my birthday money was gone and my entrance into the world of figure collecting had begun.

Website History:

Optimisticpenguin.com sprung into existence on the 6th of July 2009. I had just started collecting figures and was inspired by blogs such as Alafista, Kodomut and Inferno-Project and so I decided to set up my own blog to share my own figure collecting stories and to provide reviews and pictures for fellow collectors to peruse over. A short time into my collecting I found sites such as Shewsbury Land and Acesan who further inspired me to create comics and diorama's with my figures and thus Figure Comic was born, my very own figure comic series. Around this time I started using my Deviant Art page for more than just browsing and began doing figure photography and posting the majority of my art work there, I also came across Tsuki-Board in my internet wanderings and became a member.

Since then I have aimed to create a fun and unique website which I hope is an enjoyable and fun place for people to visit, I just want to share the funness which is figure collecting.
